Filipinos Loves Obvious Questions

Episode 1

Translation:

Boy: Can I buy one piece?
Lady: Balot or Penoy?
Boy: Balut.
Lady: Are you gonna eat it?
Boy: No, I’m gonna dance with it.
(cue song: Hit you with that Ddu..ddu…ddu…ddu…)

A little back ground of the skit.

Majority of the Filipinos loves to eat BALUT, a boiled fertilized duck egg which is a delicacy in South East Asia. It is usually served with a spicy vinegar or a coconut sap. I had this very comical and similar experience with this situation back when I was in college. Filipinos loves to ask obvious questions. Some of the example of that is this:

Teacher: Okay class, let’s have a quiz. Get 1/2 sheet of paper.
Student: 1/2 ma’am?

This is very common in the Philippines so this skit is somewhat relevant. What are you gonna do with the food that you bought? Yeah it’s possible that you can dance with it – that’s hilarious – but what’s really interesting is that obvious question “Are you gonna eat it?”

What about you?

Does your country also has this kind of habit?

If you are a Filipino, can you give one good example of an Obvious Question?
